Tantra yoga, acro-yoga and yoga pole dancing are all trends that
have spiked in popularity recently, but naked yoga is the latest addition,
popping up in studios from New York to London.
And Twisting Peacock Yoga in Perth, Western Australia is joining
the rising number of studios hosting nude yoga classes for women, with a
mission to help them love not judge their bodies.
‘My teacher Rosie Rees came to me about six months ago with the
idea and we decided Perth was ready for it,’ studio owner Melissa Howard told
Daily Mail Australia.
In a two hour blend of Kundalini, Hatha and Yin yoga, attendees
are taken through a series of light poses, meditation and seated breathing exercises
accompanied by soft tribal music.
‘It’s about empowering women to break free of all their
insecurities and all of their body hang-ups and to drop all the crap about that
kind of stuff,’ Ms Howard said.
While regular yoga classes are great for the mind, body and
spirit, the nude yoga classes are significantly more beneficial due to the fear
most women overcome by signing up.
‘Quite a few ladies cry through the process because it’s such a
relief,’ Ms Howard said.
‘Some women have had these horrible body image issues for years
and years and they are so proud of themselves sitting there.’
While there are many women who are contemplating it but have
not yet mustered the courage to attend, Ms Howard says they absolutely will not
regret it.
