Chennai Metro rolled out for the first time on Monday when Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who was connected through a video conference from her office pressed a button signalling the flag off. It was a 28-Year-Old Woman who hogged the limelight Today as she was behind the wheels the metro train started.

Preethi who holds a deplamo in Engineering quit her job after making her mind to join the Chennai Metro. She underwent a training process for about one-and-a-half year to emerge as the first women to be selected to drove the Chennai Metro Train. Speaking to media, Her Father R Anbu said his daughter is very excited and her dream of becoming a loco pilot of metro rail has come true Today.

Chennai Metro Rail reached Koyambedu from Alandur metro station (a 10 km stretch) within 18 minutes. This Metro Rail will have four coaches and the total capacity is 1,276 passengers.

Phase 1 of Chennai Metro Rail covering a 45 km stretch have two corridors and it costs Rs 16,500 crore. By the end of 2015, Phase 2 connecting Chennai Central and St.Thomas Mount will be ready
